I'm Sorry Everyone

The run on Atlantis is over. I built up my stack with great play and got out in 73rd place. With aj one to the right of the cutoff, i raised the standard to 3500. The small blind, a good player who knew he could outplay me, smoothcalled. The big blind a tight player who i knew was not that good called as well. The flop came q of clubs, 6 of diamonds, ace of diamonds. Check, Check, and I bet 8200. The small blind raised to 20,000. The big blind folded. I went into the tank for about 6 minutes, thinking about every possible hand that he could be holding. I had seen him play at my table the previous day, and knew he was capable of making a reraise with anything. I thought he had a flush draw, and the only other real hand i was worried about was A6. Although I could have put him on AQ or 66, I ruled those out by the way the hand progressed. I knew that I couldnt' just call the extra 12000 chips. It was either all in for 45000 or fold. He had me covered, and I thought and thought and thought, and breaking my rule about no big pots without monster hands, I pushed all in. He called and turned over two queens. There was absolutely nothing I could do. The way this player played, I could not reasonably put him on QQ. I had been making solid reads so far with tight aggressive play, and with 35000 chips in the pot, I wanted to take it down right there and not give him a chance to catch up. Unfortunately, he was already ahead.
I'm sorry to everyone that has been cheering me on. This was my chance to do something big, and this time it didn't work out. Thanks to everyone that gave me advice and followed me to the bahamas. Ill see you when i get back.

Big Day

Today is a big day in my poker playing career. The field is down to 93, 45 cash, and at the end of the day there will only be 27 people left. Will I be one of them? I hope so. As JWeb so astutely pointed out, my table draw for the early rounds this morning seems to be a good one. I'll be the second table to break, but I won't have to face any of the bigstacks for at least an hour and a half. Jason and I think that the money will probably hit around the end of the third or fourth level today, and hopefully I'll still be around to talk about it. Keep checking our blog, as well as Paradise's for all the latest updates. Wish me luck!!!

No to Comedy, Yes to Corona

After some thought, the plan for the night is to take 100 dollars to the let it ride table, get free drinks and go to the Atlantis Bar and Grill, where Jevon has been hooking it up VIP style. There should be about 60 players left from flight two and one stack is over 100,000. Jason will start the blog up again tomorrow and hopefully have some good things to report.

Atlantis is a RIDICULOUS Place

What a day. We've only been up for 6 hours, but both Jason and I are beat to exaustion. After spending a couple hours poolside working on my tan, we checked up on the pokerroom. Johnny V was still in it but after we got back to the pool (and i got back to my drink), he sat down in front of us, busted before the third break. :( To ease his frustration, he suggested a jetski adventure. After some deliberation, we decided it was just too good to pass up. Jason, Alicia, John and I walked down to the beach and tried to figure out how to ride the waves. We were approached by multiple people running the jetski operation, and then all of a sudden, they started fighting eachother. I'm not gonna lie, I was not comfortable at that point. All my Mom had been saying was that I be prudent, and these crazy bahamians already had our money and were running down the beach. We kept our cool, and got on to the sickest waverunner ever. Mine was really, really fast, and I beat everyone when we tried to race. That was a lot of fun, and I'm glad that John suggested it. After that we headed back up to the pools and went on the slides. It was fun. Then we split up and right now, Jason and I are just exploring the mini-bar. Everything up here is so ridiculously expensive that I've just resigned myself to winning the tournament to pay for all the beer.
We're probably going to go to the comedy show tonight, and after that, who knows? Just gonna take it easy and get ready for the tourney. Jason will probably post something later with pictures, but for now, I'm out.
Fleischer, my bad, you know you're my bball playing buddy, and I thank you for your support.

Deep Breath....

The Run On Atlantis Wow. First I want to say thanks to all the people who are reading this blog and cheering me on. Bernie, don't fail finals, and Andy, don't worry, I don't plan on dumping chips anytime soon. Rosen and Goffman, thanks for the kind words. JWeb, big ups for keeping tabs on the paradise blog. It's really cool to know that you guys are behind me. So, after day one, I am 12th in chips out of the 46 players remaining. Today's flight will probably be a little larger with a little bit better quality of play, and I don't know if they will get under the 50 mark, but right now, I'm exactly where I want to be. After I made that flush last night, Randy (PokerRanders) sat down immediately to my right. I picked up KJ, raised standard and he popped me back. I folded and he showed me J9. The man is aggressive and gets people to do what he wants. If that weren't enough, 20 minutes after that (after Randers busts another player) the chip leader, Bengt Sonnert sits down at our table! I had played with him earlier in the day and he is a really cool guy. and he also made a sick call on me when I bet the river on a low board from the small blind and he just had AQ (I had KJ). In addition, Owen Simring was at my table (7th), and when the day endded there was another stack at my table larger than myself as well. So I'm very glad that I'll be able to move tables tomorrow. Mike, the man in the orange shirt, has provided invaluable advice, about the players and the tournament, and KNOCK ON WOOD, he says that I will be able to coast to the money. He's playing today, and we'll meet up later this afternoon or tonight to discuss the way play is progressing. I've met some very cool people on this trip and they are really helping my play.
Today is the day off and I plan to make the most of it. Jason and I are going to hit up all the slides around here, and take somepictures so you guys can see how awesome Atlantis is, and we'll check in later as we cheer John and Mike on. Keep it real, and thanks again for the support.

Mr. Vick and JohnnyV

After arriving at the resort, we fumbled around until we got out to the "party". By party they mean awful barbecue, with no fun of any sort happening. For obvious reasons we ditched the beach to hit up the casinos. After a few losses at the let-it-ride poker table, Liebman hit really big with his trip tens to pull down $150. A modest win, but as you know, and the casino knows, what goes around comes around. We lost...Bottom line, but did we have fun? YES! A few crap throws and roulette spins later, we decided to retreat to our room for the night, when Adam saw two friends he made from the plane, John and Alicia. They were two 22 year olds from Ohio, and John, known as JohnnyV5000, qualified for the tourney. They were good people who liked to have fun, and that is what we needed. After chatting it up, we spotted Michael Vick playing blackjack. Yes...I did say Michael Vick. Yes...The quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. After John laid down $100 and hand of blackjack next to him (and won!), we retreated to the bar/grill and had some food, laughs, and some drinks. We bid them farewell and headed back to our room. After Liebman passed out, I got ready for bed, and pondered the following days events in my head as I...fell...asleep...

At the First Break

Jason will fill you in on the night past later, but here is a live update at the first break after two hours of play on day one: I'm playing pretty good poker, and my stack is up to 18,600. I haven't been involved in any really big pots, and I made some nice raises and reraises to mix up my play. I've only shown down one loser, but I've shown down the winning hand more than 5 times, plus I'm getting people out of the pot without them seeing my cards either. I do have one big stack at the table and he's good, a 19 year old dropout named Tom who just kills it playing poker. He made a couple fo really strong moves early and is up to about 25,000 in chips. Besides that, I feel like I can beat the table. My image is tight and aggressive but also very tricky. So far so good, and hopefully I can keep accumulating chips as the day continues. Keep checking back for more, the internet in the ballroom is crappy, but Jason will try and post whenever he can.
